Pre-season continues on Tuesday (29 July) evening as Bradford (Park Avenue) welcome local neighbours Bradford City to the Horsfall Stadium. (Kick-off: 7.30pm)
Bradford City will become the fourth club from the Football League to visit the Horsfall Stadium this pre-season. First to visit was a full-strength Doncaster Rovers side, with the visitors eventually getting the better of Avenue after two second half goals.
Next to visit was Hartlepool United. Like Doncaster Rovers, Hartlepool United brought a full-strength side, captained by former player Michael Duckworth. In what was a very tight game, a late goal from Jonathan Franks sealed the victory for the Sky Bet League Two club.
On Saturday, Sheffield United U21s were the opponents. After two first half goals from Nathan Hotte and Chib Chilaka, Avenue looked to have the game under control but the South Yorkshire club responded well with a brace from Otis Khan levelling the score. With both sides searching for the victory, Joe Cheeseman netted to give the Blades the victory.
During pre-season, the Avenue have also visited Tadcaster Albion and Brighouse Town. A midweek trip to Tadcaster ended with a convincing 3-0 victory, and Avenue also claimed victory against Brighouse Town with a hard-fought 3-2 win.
Bradford left-back Martin Drury has been present in every pre-season game and he believes playing against Football League clubs will only benefit the team:
“The lads are growing in confidence. We want to play against better teams in pre-season because it’s a good test for us and we enjoy it.
It’s going to help us when that first game comes around in a couple of weeks time, and hopefully we can hit the ground running.”
