Knowles: 'We Showed Great Character'

Bradford (Park Avenue) continued their unbeaten run of games, and captain James Knowles spoke to the club’s official website after the draw against Chester FC.

The defender could only praise the effort of his fellow team-mates:

‘We showed great character, especially with Dru (Drury) clearing off the line at the end. We know we can play football, and with the team we had out, there may be one eye on Saturday. For the first 20 minutes, we did well, but, then, we stopped. After that, it (the pressure) came and came!’

At the same time, Knowles, alongside others, denied Chester FC until the 88th minute, and, despite conceding late into the game, the captain admits he is pleased with a draw:

‘There were last ditch tackles, people putting bodies on the line, and to concede with five minutes left is disappointing. But, to escape with a draw is pleasing. It’s good for the rest of the season, we have done well, and we are getting players back too.’

As the game was drawing to a close, the Bradford defender could only watch Tom Greaves fail to convert a late chance, but, he could not blame the striker:

‘If there is anyone you want on the end of it, it is Greavesy. But, he was stretching for the ball!’

The next fixture for the Avenue is the FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Qualifying Round tie against Ossett Albion, and Knowles is looking to use the club’s experience to progress:

‘The lads are looking forward to it. We will show them respect, because they have got some good results, defeating Farsley AFC, North Ferriby United and Hinckley United. But, we have been more professional playing lower league sides, and if we turn up with our professional head, hopefully we can do a good job and get in the hat for the First Round.’
