Following the 4-1 defeat to Guiseley AFC in the West Riding County Cup Second Round, Bradford (Park Avenue) assistant manger Mark Hume spoke to the club’s official website.
In an honest appraisal, Hume expressed his disappointment at the performance:
‘It is was an embarrassment and it won’t be accepted. The first half was a disgrace. I don’t care what competition it is, we cannot start a game like that. To be honest, it’s let me and John (Deacey) down, its embarrassing to come to our local neighbours and play like that. I hope it’s a one off, because it better not happen on Saturday, they have been warned.’
With the recent FA Cup with Budweiser draw, that has seen Bradford paired with Doncaster Rovers, Hume warned of the consequences that await the players if they do not reach the standards that are set by the coaching staff:
‘They can have a big game at Doncaster Rovers, but, we have told them they will be picked on form. It will be a great day, but, it’s a week and half away. We have two more league games to play yet, If you play like that, there will be players losing shirts for the big games.’
Despite the lacklustre first half performance, the Avenue number two took some positives from the game:
‘The second half was better. They took on board what we said at half time, we were disgusted with them. They have shown a bit of spirit, we kept the ball better, and changed the system. But, it’s about the effort we put in.’
