For the second successive week, Chris Howarth scored a late goal, but against Penrith AFC, the midfielder’s header saw his side enter the draw for the FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Round Qualifying.
John Deacey reinstated Howarth to the starting line-up, after dropping to the bench against Solihull Moors in The Skrill North. For the tie against Penrith AFC, Howarth was handed the number seven shirt, but was used in various positions throughout the 90 minutes.
The midfielder was relieved to see his header find the net:
“I thought it was a late trip to Penrith on Wednesday night! It felt like we would play another 90 minutes and not score. It took until the 90th minute, but I’m happy.”
Meanwhile, Howarth is hoping to be part of another Avenue squad to reach the FA Cup with Budweiser First Round:
“It’s exciting because we have been there twice in two seasons.”
Since joining the Avenue, Howarth has featured in different positions, and admitted he has no preference:
“I will play anywhere!”
