Hednesford Town 1-1 Bradford (Park Avenue)

Bradford (Park Avenue) scored a second half equalizer to rescue a deserved point at Keys Park.

The Avenue went behind after just 5 five minutes, when Marvin Robinson slid the ball under John Danby after Bradford failed to clear the ball from a cross.

Bradford equalized with just twenty minutes remaining. Billy Priestley rose well from a superb Chris Howarth cross and smashed his header home to leave the keeper with no chance.

It was a frantic start to the game, with Avenue nearly breaking deadlock within a minute. After Bradford were awarded an early corner, Ryan Qualter nodded towards goals but the keeper tipped it on to the post and the ball was cleared.

Just minutes later Hednesford got the opening goal when Robinson slotted home from close range. A cross came in from the left which was not dealt with by the Avenue defence and Robinson was on hand to side foot the ball past John Danby.

The next notable piece of action didn’t come until just before half time. And it was the home side that nearly doubled their lead. Jamie Crowther tried a chip from inside the box but Danby was alert and pushed the ball to safety.

In to the second half it was the home side again that threatened. A cross from the left hand side was bundled towards goal and it took a clearance off of the line by Priestly to keep the score at one nil.

As the second half went on the Avenue began to look more dangerous. They went close to an equalizer with a nicely worked move down the right. Joe Colbeck firstly put the ball through the legs of the defender before playing in Chib Chilaka. Chilaka then took the ball past his opponent before crossing for Richard Marshall, but he couldn’t direct his header on target.

Avenue leveled things up with just 20 minutes remaining. Niall Heaton had possession on the left before laying the ball off to Howarth. The midfielder crossed perfectly for Priestley who rose well and headed home.

Bradford nearly stole all three points when Lamin Colley broke free from two defenders on the half way. The substitute showed great pace to create the chance but was unable to apply the finish.
