Drury: 'We Gave It Our All'

The Avenue’s left back Martin Drury, spoke to press officer Lewis Sale, following the 3-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup with Budweiser.

Drury, who used to play for Doncaster Rovers, was pleased to return to his former club:

‘It was a great experience, the lads have been looking forward to it all week. It’s lovely to come to a place like Doncaster Rovers, who have done so well, it’s a fantastic ground and setup.’

Despite the result, Drury praised the efforts of his squad:

‘We are proud of ourselves. We do set our standards high with every game, and we are disappointed to come away with nothing from the game. We have done as well as we can, there are always little things to pick on, we have to learn from it, but, we enjoyed it.’

As the Avenue fought their way back into the game, Drury admitted it was another special goal from Richard Marshall:

‘Scooby does not score simple goals, he always scores brilliant ones! As soon as that went in, it gave us a glimpse of hope, and you think we might get back into this. There was plenty of time to play, but, the third goal ended it for us. We gave it our all, and hopefully the fans are proud of what we achieved.’

Nevertheless, the left back had time to thank the large number of Avenue fans who made the trip to the Keepmoat Stadium:

‘It was fantastic to see all the support, on behalf of all the lads I would like to thank the travelling fans for all their support, it is very much appreciated.’
