Following the heart attack on the pitch suffered by Bolton Wanderers player Fabrice Muamba in March 2012, a collaboration between the British Heart Foundation, the Football Association, the Football Conference and other Leagues ensured a scheme was set up to try and enable all individual clubs to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator at a reduced cost.
The BHF and the FA contributed one third each of the funds required for the purchase and Clubs had to pay the remainder.
BPA’s share was kindly sponsored by loyal Avenue fan and friendly turnstile operative Pete Hearn and he presented the Defibrillator to assistant manager Mark Hume, physio Kay Morgan, and player Jamie Price prior to the victory against Worcester City.
The Defibrillator will be available for use at all Avenue games and training sessions but hopefully we will never have to use it for other than testing purposes.
