Deacey: 'We Were Magnificent'

Following his side’s 3-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup with Budweiser First Round, John Deacey spoke to the waiting media at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Avenue manager was proud of his players, praising their efforts during the cup tie:

‘We were magnificent, we played some great football against a strong Doncaster Rovers side, who are in form. But, we acquitted ourselves very well.’

After the game Deacey pointed out one weakness in his squad against the full time outfit:

‘We didn’t let our heads drop at 2-0. We came out and took the game to them. Dean Saunders has a good squad here, he’s done very well, but, we were worried about set pieces. It was our downfall in the end.’

Following their exit from the famous cup competition, Deacey is hoping for his side’s current performances to continue:

‘I couldn’t fault the effort and the way we approached the game. We have to consolidate ourselves, and performances like that will help us finish as high as we can in the Conference North.’
