Following the 2-1 victory against Leamington FC, John Deacey believes his team can still improve, despite being unbeaten in the Vanarama Conference North:
“We put ourselves into holes and we’re digging ourselves out of them. That’s four times we’ve gone behind this season and each time we’ve come back to get a result. We have to learn to take a lead and once we do, we’ll better for it.”
But, Deacey praised his squad who scored two goals in two second half minutes:
“They’ve shown great character and Scott Kerr showed that when he came on. He’s not been starting in our previous three games, but he influenced the game for us in the second half.
They (Leamington FC) had the better of the midfield and I had to have a look at it and change it and it worked.
Joe (Colbeck) answered me too today. He didn’t play on Monday because we wanted to try something different, but he did very well today.
Leamington FC were a good and competitive side and will cause plenty of teams problems this season so full credit to them.”
So far, Deacey has not named the same starting eleven in the Vanarama Conference North, but recognises the need for a squad this season:
“We’ve got depth and quality here and there are still four or five players out injured.”
