Following the 1-0 victory against Barrow AFC, John Deacey was pleased with another important victory in The Skrill North.
The Avenue boss highlighted the effort of his team in the win at The Furness Building Society Stadium:
“We played well, we started positively and we took it to them from the first whistle. I wanted us to play on the front foot and I don’t think anyone did that better than James Knowles, he was outstanding. Qualter and Dru (Drury) backed him up really well today and the two forwards; Bees (Beesley) and Chib (Chilaka) were excellent. Jordan (Deacey) put in a mature performance, Pricey and Scooby (Marshall) were excellent, Max (Maxfield) was good when he came on and so was Mr Consistent; Paul Walker. And Lamby kept another clean sheet.”
An eighth clean sheet in 11 matches is pleasing many at the Avenue, including the manager:
“We’ve had the occasional slip but it’s been a good end to the season. There’s a good relationship between Qualts and Knowles. Mark (Hume) and myself have worked them hard and I love how we are finishing the season. There are players playing for contracts to stay at the club and it’s opened our eyes because they’re playing with a great attitude. We’ve lost three influential players with Clayton, Hotte and Davidson with injury and had suspensions too. Jordan didn’t really start until November but has been excellent. Knowles has been suspended but, he has been awesome for us and I’ve been so pleased with his attitude. I’ve worked with him for seven or eight seasons and he’s a top guy.”
Also, Deacey stresses the importance of performing well for the Avenue supporters:
“They’ve come a long way with us, whether they’ve drove or caught the coach, we’ve to be professional and make sure we work hard for them. It always helps when we get good results and I hope they continue to support us against Stalybridge Celtic on Monday.”
