After the 1-0 victory against Brackley Town, John Deacey spoke to the official website.
The Avenue boss was delighted with the win:
“It was a thoroughly deserved victory. There were some outstanding performances. The front two were great and the back three held it together. In the first half, we looked shaky down the left. But, we had a word at half-time to try and stop the nine (Stefan Moore) and ten (Steve Diggin). In the second half, they threatened us down the right but they didn’t have any clear cut chances, but neither did we. We needed something like that to win the game.”
Paul Walker, the Avenue goalscorer received praise from his manager:
“I call him Mr Consistent. He is seven out of ten, at least every game. And, he thoroughly deserved the goal, it was a great strike.”
Now, the Avenue have impressed in the defensive area of the pitch, keeping four consecutive clean sheets, and Deacey admitted he is pleased with his back three:
“We have only conceded four goals in seven games. (James) Knowles and (Ryan) Qualter have put together a good partnership and having Dru (Martin Drury) back is a bonus, so it’s been decent.”
