Deacey Delighted With Victory

Following the 6-1 victory against Worcester City, the Avenue manager John Deacey was pleased with the result:

“We were sloppy at the start of both halves, but we did very well and there were some outstanding performances. Nicky Boshell scored two goals but he was superb. Jordan (Deacey) in midfield didn’t seem to give the ball away. (Jamie) Pricey as the holding midfield player was superb, Chris Howarth had a great game. (Adam) Clayton and (James) Knowles were commanding there, I could go through the whole squad! Alex (Davidson) made some good runs and (Paul) Beesley got a nice goal.”

However, Deacey stressed the need for improvement after the recent poor form:

“It doesn’t hide the fact we were very poor in December. You can’t live on the past you have to live on the future, we need to try and build on that performance and climb up the league to achieve what we want to do this season. It was good for the crowd they needed a lift after the recent performances we have put in.”

Finally, the Avenue boss is hoping to add further quality to his side whilst other team members are looking to regain fitness:

“We needed a bit of new blood and excitement to the squad. We have let Tom Corner go on loan to Barrow AFC, but we have to build up (Martin) Drury, and (Richard) Marshall was out. The squad is pretty thin but we are looking to add to the squad and I will be working with the board.”
