Deacey Delighted With Gutsy Performance

On Saturday, Bradford (Park Avenue) defeated Penrith AFC to progress in the FA Cup with Budweiser.

The Avenue manager John Deacey praised his side and the visitors for their performances:

“It was a gutsy performance against a gutsy Penrith side. They battled hard, but we showed great character. I thought Penrith put us under some pressure for the first ten minutes of the second half. They got the goal that woke us up and then we came back into the game.”

Meanwhile, Deacey withdrew striker Chib Chilaka and was replaced by Jason St Juste, and the manager was impressed with the winger:

“I thought St Juste changed the game when he came on. He has not been involved much for the past seven or eight games but he did very well.”

Also, the Avenue manager praised Chris Howarth and Martin Drury, who featured in his second game after returning from injury:

“Chris was moved around today but he was still there at the end with a brave header at the far post. Martin has done well, he worked so hard to get fit and he could be back to his best in about five games.”

Next weekend, the Avenue return to The Skrill North action as they visit Colwyn Bay, but Deacey has picked out areas of improvement in training:

“We have got a week off to work on free-kicks and our fitness to go again in the league.”
