Following the 3-0 victory against Tadcaster Albion, manager John Deacey spoke to the official website.
After suffering a narrow defeat to Doncaster Rovers last week, Deacey is happy with picking up a victory against the Brewers:
“Both teams played the game with the right spirit. I don’t want to pick individuals out just yet, but there were some good performances out there.”
And how does Deacey think pre-season is going so far?
“We are on schedule with our fitness programme. Against Tadcaster Albion, we were able to give some players another 45 minutes and others played the full game. We will now move onto Saturday where we face stiff opposition in Hartlepool United at the Horsfall Stadium.”
At this time of the season, many players are looking to impress to sign deals with clubs, and some are pushing to be in the starting eleven for the first game. Deacey is encouraged with the options he has available at the Avenue:
“It’s good to have the squad we have at the moment. We were missing Matty James, Chris Howarth and Scotty Kerr for the game at Tadcaster but we played some good stuff. The lads have shown great attitude and will continue to work hard.”
