The Avenue defender Adam Clayton spoke to Press Officer Lewis Sale after losing 3-1 to Brackley Town.
The right back conceded it was not their day at St James’ Park:
‘I thought we were very sloppy in the second half. We went into the dressing room thinking we might have a chance, and that’s what is frustrating.’
Throughout the game, Clayton was having to cope with the threat of Tom Winters, and was unfortunate to see his boot direct the ball past John Lamb for the third goal:
‘I got told to stay tight and possibly I could’ve been tighter to him, but, his crosses came from a deep position which I couldn’t stop. The lads heads dropped a little bit after the first goal. It did come off my boot for the third goal, but, it was going to be a tap in if I didn’t try to clear the ball.’
Nevertheless, the versatile player remains confident about ending their recent bad run of form:
‘We are not doing anything different, we are playing the same way and we won’t change that. It is not happening at the moment, but, if we keep working hard we will get there.’
