Bradford (Park Avenue) 5-3 FC Halifax Town

Bradford (Park Avenue) recorded a fourth consecutive friendly victory, with a 5-3 win against FC Halifax Town at the Horsfall Stadium.

The Avenue’s midfielder Alex Davidson scored two goals in five minutes after the opening goal from Richard Marshall. Bradford extended their lead to 4-0 at half time with a penalty from Nicky Boshell. However, FC Halifax Town reduced Bradford’s advantage with goals from Sean Williams, Alex Johnson and Lee Gregory. But, the home side secured victory with a late goal from Paul Bolland.

Bradford took an early advantage, as the referee gave the Avenue a penalty. New signing Chib Chilaka received a through ball from Boshell, but the referee awarded a foul against FC Halifax Town defender Marc Roberts inside the penalty area. Marshall struck the ball against Phil Senior but the midfielder scored from the rebound.

After the opening goal, the Shaymen created two opportunities, but Josh Wilson and Kevin Holsgrove were unable to find a way past Avenue goalkeeper John Lamb.

John Deacey’s men extended their lead with a goal from Alex Davidson. Nathan Hotte’s through ball found Paul Walker and his left-footed cross was met by the winger at the back post.

Five minutes later, Davidson scored his second goal of the game. Again, Boshell spotted the run of the number nine, who dribbled the ball past Matthew Clarke and struck a low shot past Senior from 14 yards.

Before half time, the referee awarded a second penalty for Bradford as Chilaka was involved in a challenge with Clarke, but the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Boshell added a fourth goal sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

The second half started with Bradford making six changes from the first half. Also, Phil Senior, Marc Roberts and Paul Marshall were the only players to remain on the pitch from the starting eleven for Neil Aspin’s men.

Bradford nearly scored their fifth goal after 47 minutes, but Walker’s right footed effort struck the post from 20 yards.

A minute later, the Shaymen midfielder Sean Williams responded with a shot from distance to score the first goal for the visitors.

Five minutes later, substitute Alex Johnson was awarded a penalty following a foul from the Bradford defence on the striker. The number eleven scored from the penalty spot.

The Avenue struggled to create chances, Tom Corner’s 20 yard effort could only find the hands of Senior. At the opposite end of the pitch, Lamb denied Matty Pearson and was unable to dive and stop Adam Smith’s shot, but the ball failed to find the back of the net from 16 yards.

Eventually, the Conference Premier side scored their third goal. Bradford midfielder Ross Daly lost possession, and Pearson’s cross was met by Lee Gregory, and his header found the bottom corner from close range.

A minute later, the away side nearly equalised but Johnson’s left-footed shot narrowly went wide from 12 yards.

With the full time whistle approaching, the Avenue scored a fifth goal. Corner kept possession and his through ball was controlled by Paul Bolland who found the bottom corner from 12 yards.
