Bradford (Park Avenue) 0-0 Histon FC

On the final day of the season in the Blue Square Bet North, Histon FC avoided relegation with a draw against Bradford (Park Avenue) at the Horsfall Stadium.

John Deacey made two changes from the defeat to Colwyn Bay, as Jamie Price dropped to the bench and Matty James was not included in the squad. Therefore, Aiden Savory and Adam Baker returned to the starting eleven.

The visitors started well and forced the first save of the match from Bradford goalkeeper John Lamb. A long ball from defence was controlled by striker Jack Sessions, but his low shot was saved by the Avenue’s number one.

Once again, the Stutes were looking to take the lead with Bradford struggling to get in the opposition half. A corner kick was delivered into the box, but Danny Fitzsimons was unable to keep his header down from 12 yards.

The first opportunity for Bradford saw Richard Marshall step up to take a free kick. Following a foul on Jordan Deacey, the Avenue’s midfielder struck his effort over the bar from 25 yards.

Shortly after, the home side managed to trouble Calum Kitscha in the visitors’ goal. A lovely through ball from Michael Duckworth found Adam Baker and with the striker approaching the penalty area, the ball bounced off the surface, but his effort was well saved by the Stutes goalkeeper.

The travelling supporters nearly saw their side take the lead. The ball was passed from James Stevenson into the feet of winger Ben Coker, and after cutting inside onto his right foot, his effort narrowly went wide from 12 yards.

Furthermore, the Stutes continued to attack and came close to scoring the first goal of the afternoon. A free kick from left back Harri Hawkins was nodded wide by Salim Relizani from ten yards.

With half time approaching, the visitors caused more problems for Bradford. A corner from Jay Dowie was met by Zack Mills, but his header went wide from 14 yards. A minute later, the Avenue nearly conceded a late goal. With the home side unable to clear the ball, a cross was fired over by Hawkins from eight yards.

After the break, Histon FC continued to search for the first goal of the afternoon. A pass down the right wing fell into the path of Relizani, but Lamb dived to his left to deny the winger from 12 yards.

Once again, John Lamb helped his side avoid defeat. A long throw in from Mills was well controlled by Stevenson, and his attempt was heading into the bottom corner, but the ball was tipped wide by the Avenue goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, with the scoreboard level, the Avenue were reduced to ten men as captain Nathan Hotte received a red card.

Again, the away side were denied a late victory, as Lamb managed to save a powerful strike from Coker.
