Bradford (Park Avenue) 0-0 Brackley Town

Bradford (Park Avenue) brought to an end their five game losing streak with a 0-0 draw against Brackley Town.

The biggest moment of the game came in the first half, when goalkeeper Jon Viscosi was forced off with an injury. With no substitute goalkeeper to call on, manager Jon Brady had a discussion with his players and decided that Sam Whittall would play the remainder of the game in goal.

The Avenue had the better of the possession throughout the game without putting any serious pressure on the stand in goalkeepers net.

In what was a quiet first half, Bradford started the game brightly and looked determined to put to an end their poor form.

On the ten minute mark, new Avenue goalkeeper, John Danby, threw the ball to Joe Colbeck on the half way line. Colbeck broke quickly and played a ball in to the feet of Nathan Hotte, who on the turn chipped over.

In to the second half, Avenue again nearly caught Brackley out on the counter attack with Colbeck and Danby linking up again. Danby kicked long to Colbeck, who broke free before playing a superb ball across the box. Barraclough tried hard to get on the end of it but couldn’t quite get there.

The Avenue again went close, this time down the left through Paul Walker. Chib Chilaka picked the ball 30 yards out, holding off his marker he played a through ball to Walker. The winger went down the left before turning inside and shooting at goal, but his strike was inches wide and smashed in to the side netting.

Chilaka and Walker linked up again shortly after, with Walker this time turning provider. The winger picked the ball up on the left taking on his man and playing a ball in to the feet of Chilaka in the box, on the swivel he struck well but the stand in keeper did well and blocked the shot.

Avenue’s best chance of the game came from a dead ball situation. Substitute Richard Marshall gathered the ball 20 yards out and struck towards goal. His strike was adjudged to have been blocked by the defender’s hand and a free kick was awarded on the edge of the box. Colbeck stepped up to take the kick but the wall blocked his strike.

Avenue pushed hard for the winner but were unable to beat the stand in keeper, Whittall.
