Today was the first day of pre-season training for the Avenue players and management.
Early in the morning, the players were put through their paces ahead of the forthcoming 2014/15 season.
With only 11 days remaining until the first pre-season friendly against Doncaster Rovers at the Horsfall Stadium, Deacey was pleased with what he saw:
“We started our pre-season training with some very hard fitness training. The new and old lads looked great though. We return to training on Tuesday and, then, on Thursday we start with the football training.”
The Avenue defender Ryan Qualter, who recently signed a one-year deal, admits pre-season is difficult but understands that it’s crucial ahead of the new season:
“Pre-season is always tough but it’s one of those things that needs to be done to prepare for a competitive league. It was a tough first session but all the lads seemed to have been looking themselves so that makes it easier.”
Recent signing Scott Kerr gave his thoughts of how the first day went:
“It was tough! It was good to meet the squad and they are a good set of lads who look after themselves well. We didn’t see one football throughout the day. We did four minute runs followed by 400m runs and we finished by doing 100m hill runs! Everyone looked in good shape but I think a few of the lads will have a quiet evening!”
Another new recruit Paddy Miller was impressed with the team spirit at the club:
“It was really professional. The management team gave the squad a briefing about the session and pre-season. The first session was good, it pushed everyone and the lads have come back looking really fit. I can tell that there is a really good dressing room here, a real togetherness and I’m pleased to be part of it.”
Don’t forget, you can watch Bradford (Park Avenue) welcome Doncaster Rovers for the first pre-season friendly at the Horsfall Stadium on Wednesday 9 July, with kick-off at 7.45pm.
