Bradford (Park Avenue) suffered their fourth defeat of the season, with a narrow loss to AFC Fylde at Kellamergh Park.
Liam Tomsett nodded the Coasters in front, before a superb volley from Scott Kerr equalled the scoreline. After the break, Dave Challinor’s men took the advantage again as Danny Rowe converted Michael Barnes’ low cross.
The Coasters started well and came close to taking an early lead. A free-kick from Michael Potts was flicked by Tom Hannigan into the bottom corner. But, the linesman raised his flag to indicate offside against the Coasters defender.
The early dominance from the hosts continued, with some fluid attacking play in the final third.
Two headers from the lively Richie Allen went close, and Bradley Barnes was proving a handful for the Avenue left-back Billy Priestley, but his teasing cross was cleared well by Grant Black.
Then, the home side took a deserved lead. Potts drifted to the right wing and his cross deflected off the legs of Jack Rea, and the unmarked Tomsett nodded home.
Twenty minutes later, the Avenue equalised in spectacular style. A low cross bounced up for Scott Kerr, and the midfielder rifled a stunning volley from 20 yards, off the underside of the bar, and into the top corner.
Before the break, the Avenue were awarded a penalty. Driving towards goal, Rea was brought down by Tomsett and the referee pointed to the spot. But, Paul Walker’s low strike was well saved by goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe.
After half time, Dave Challinor’s side regained the lead. Michael Barnes received a through ball, and his cross was hit on the volley by Rowe into the back of the net from ten yards.
Both teams made substitutions as the hosts were looking to extend their advantage and the Avenue were trying to find a way back into the game.
However, it was the Coasters who came close to adding a third goal.
After watching an effort from Danny Rowe, Michael Barnes latched onto the rebound, but the winger flashed the rebound wide from ten yards.
With full time approaching, the Avenue pushed forward and nearly snatched a dramatic equaliser. But, a header from Priestley lacked enough power to trouble Hinchliffe, who caught the ball prompting the referee to blow the final whistle.
